Aspiring writers abound in Sydney, as do writers who already work within the industry but like to keep up with their craft through education. I've seen, and been to, a number of different writing courses. Which courses for writing do you think are the best in Sydney?

I've been to a couple of different writing courses that I'd gladly recommend. I did a one day course on writing historical fiction at the NSW Writer's Centre, which was really informative and interesting. I also did a one day course called 'Getting Published' through Faber Academy, which is a writing school run through the publishers Allen and Unwin (located in Crows Nest). This led me to doing Faber Academy's six month 'Writing a Novel' course, which was an incredible experience. Classes were one a week in the evening, with the occasional full day on Saturday. Not only did I learn so much, but I got one on one feedback and amazing support. I also got to meet a number of authors as they were guest lecturers throughout the course, including Markus Zusak, Sebastian Barry, Michael Robotham and Margo Lanagan. At the end of the course a sample of everyone's writing was published in an anthology, and a graduation reading night was held for industry people. It was an amazing experience, and I'm still friends with the people that I met through it. It's not cheap (although scholarships are offered), and not everyone gets accepted to the longer courses. But if you're interested in becoming a writer, or furthering the skills you already have, I couldn't recommend their courses enough, short or long.
Brilliant. Brilliant. Just a brilliant answer Kerri :)
Thanks Justine! I may have got carried away with the length of it, but given it's about writing I figure that's ok :-)

Thankfully I haven't had a need to go to writing courses, however, I've heard that the courses at Sydney Writers Centre in North Sydney are good and affordable. They run everything from travel writing to growing your online profile.
The Writers Studio in Bronte specialises in novel and script writing, and you can complete the courses in the studio or online. Doing one of those courses is a long-term goal of mine :)
I have done a few courses with The University of Sydney's Centre for Continuing Education. they have a great reputation in the industry and the classes are taught by professionals with at least a decade of experience. the course I did was a proofreading and copyediting course but they also offer courses on travel writing, novel writing, poetry and writing for children.
