Photographing birds can be challenging. They are quite flighty creatures, so a perceptive eye and speedy response is required to capture their image. But where is the best place in or around Sydney to photograph them?
Places with bodies of water are wonderful for capturing pictures of birds. Such places include Parramatta Park (near the river), Parramatta Lake Reserve and the Macquarie University Lake. If you are looking for rarer species however, there is an enclosure at Taronga Zoo where you walk amongst birds and parrots. This is where I managed to capture the above image. The difficulty of photographing birds at Taronga Zoo however, is that people may walk past and frighten the bird you are focused on.
There are lots of birds, particularly rainbow lorikeets, at The Rocks. They are pretty people friendly as they like to stalk the outdoor areas at restaurants in the hopes of getting some food, so it probably wouldn't be too hard to get some decent, up close shots of them.
The 'zoo' as in Taronga Zoo comes to mind first. Otherwise for some strange reason, the Royal Botanical Gardens comes to mind. Anywhere along a beach to practise with seagulls comes to mind, especially marvellous Manly Beach.
