Wikitravel is a free and useful online site with a great range of travel information
For first time travellers especially, finding relevant and useful information can be a daunting task. Where have you found the best unbiased information for trip planning, ticket booking, travel insurance and itinerary making in Sydney?
I usually go to qantas.com - otherwise Sydney's travel agencies (yes bricks and mortar) are most helpful. Flight Centre in Westfield Sydney are quite helpful, plus they'll also send you items in the mail.
Over the past few months I have learnt a lot about where to find information for travel. Certainly visit travel centres to read brochures and compare rates, but also read up online and check out flight costs there as well. With regards to insurance, I used cover more, but as my travel agency arranged this I really did not read up that much on it.
I found excellent destination information in lonely planet guides (one of which I purchased), though these can also be borrowed in the world sections of local libraries. I found my library to be an invaluable resource here. Also never underestimate individual advice. Experiences from friends and families can be of great use though always make sure that you check how updated that information is. On top of this, websites like wikitravel and online travel blogs can be a wonderful source of free information.
The Travel Expo run by Flight Centre would be a good one when it's on. Lots of options all in the one place, and discounts for booking on the day as well. It has free entry, and tonnes of exhibitors and talks Unfortunately the 2014 has already been, but future ones would be a good idea if you're not planning on travelling just yet.
