Pasticceria Papa

The hunt for a good doughnut in Sydney is getting harder. They all seem so mass-produced.

Have you stumbled across an impossible to resist doughnut in Sydney?

This is a tough question, given the domination of Wendys, Donut King, Krispy Kreme and other mass producers that seem to have the market in Sydney sewn up. I don't know if it still exists but growing up in Mt Druitt we used to have a travelling doughnut van called Tilpa Tilly's. Apart from that I have heard of a Puffie's Donuts in Roselands, but have as yet to sample their wares
Great answer. Krispy Kreme's have faded in Sydney, although they alive in Melbourne. Love those two suggestions, including the one in Roselands :)

Welcome to Toopa Sydney :)
This is a tough question, given the broad saturation (literally in terms of saturated fats) of the market by Donut King, Wendys, Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme and even the purveyors of "Spanish doughnuts" San Churro. There are relatively few places you can get a doughnut that is spelt correctly and that hasn't been turned out of a franchise approved machine. When I lived in Mt Druitt there used to be a travelling doughnut van called Tilpa Tilly's, but it seems to have disappeared. However, Puffie's in Roselands still have a lot of human involvement in the process of making these deep fried doughy treats
Having recently tried the Italian doughnuts at Pasticceria Papa at Haberfield, I simply can't go past them.
Although only held once a year, the churros at The Rocks Aroma Coffee Festival were amazing. The line at First Fleet Park also said it. Otherwise for a long train ride, you can't go past Krispy Kremes at Central train station in some cases...
I miss Wendy's big pink yeast donuts so much! There's none around me, but I always make sure to snap one up if I'm in Marrickville Metro. Tastes like childhood. :)
Otherwise, lately I've been getting stuck into the Krispy Kremes from the 7-11 counter - not as fresh as I'd like, but the glaze is finger-licking good.
Over the weekend I also stumbled across my absolute favourite treat at The Grounds Alexandria - handmade jam doughnuts that are deepfried in a big pot right in front of you. They're hot and cinnamony and the jam inside is TO DIE FOR. You can also get them stuffed with chocolate, which is what my boyfriend prefers. ;)

Are the Wendyís stores still around? For all those KK fans out there, there is still a KK store in the Sydney domestic airport. We pass it every time we fly to Melbourne, if weíre using the gates to the left, after going through the check-in, & thereís also 1 as you walk past the numbered gates to the right. to where ever your flight is leaving from, but you donít have to be flying at all,to buy them.Iíve never tasted 1 myself because I canít make up my mind which flavour to try!
