Sydney has an absolute plethora of book stores, both chain and independent. Some offer author events; some have rewards programs, and others sell secondhand books. Where do you think the best book store in Sydney is, and what makes it so good?

I like Kinokuniya in the city. It is a boutique style, and any book you need, you will be able to find:

Better Read than Dead on King St Newtown is fantastic. My favourite however, is Berkelouw Books. They have a few locations around Sydney. I go to either the Leichardt or Paddington, but I believe they are also located in Mona Vale and Rose Bay. They have a large section dedicated to second hand books and you can find some real gems there.
I'm a big fan of Kinokuniya too, for all the same reasons. I also really enjoy The Constant Reader in Crows Nest, an independent store that has a great rewards program you can sign up to. I've gotten quite a few vouchers from my purchases there.
Abbey's bookshop on York Street is always a good spot for some great books too.
I like Kinokunya and Shearers in Leichhardt...
Kinokuniya has a huge range and is in a great location, at the Galleries Victoria opposite the QVB. I also like to support my local Co-Op bookstore, which has outlets at most university campuses around Sydney
Have you heard of The Book Kitchen? It's actually a cafe that also sells books. It's great. You can also get gift vouchers from there... Which can be redeemed for food or books. It's quite cute.
Koorong is a great book store.
Basement Books under Central Station. Really cheap. Great for the classics and a guilty pleasure chick lit novel.
Desire Books is a great little secondhand bookstore on Whistler St in Manly. It has such a warm and cosy atmosphere as well as incredibly friendly and knowledgable staff with fantastic literary taste. They have a great selection of books with an emphasis on beautiful vintage classics. Their wall of recommended books is always impressive, I can't help but pick something out to take home with me every time I go in.
